Yaya Toure is the African Player of the for 2011

Ivory Coast's Yaya Toure is the king of African football for 2011, the Manchester City star edged out Ghana's Andre Ayew and Mali's Seydou Keita in the race for the coveted title.

Seydou Keita finished second while Andre Ayew is third. Yaya Toure is a vital cog in the Manchester City machinery as he helped them secure the FA Cup.

The mercurial midfielder is renowned for his impeccable ball control, and recovery. Toure also plays a key role in the Ivory Coast national team which is currently the continent's No. 1 ranked team.

Botswana prepares for Afcon 2012 Group D battles

As Botswana prepares to embark on a fairytale journey to Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, the diamond rich nation announced a rigorous pre-tournament schedule which begins in neighboring South Africa and ends in Cameroon.

The Zebras, as they are fondly known by their legion of fans, started training in South Africa on 13 December and will depart for Qatar on the 23rd. The Botswana senior men's national soccer team returns to Gaborone on January 4 and will go on to lock horns against neighbors Zimbabwe.

The Zebras captured the imagination of the entire African continent when they became the first nation to qualify for the Afcon 2012 tournament. The Southern African nation makes its very first appearance at the prestigious tournament scheduled for 21 January to 12 February in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Botswana are in Group D alongside Ghana, Mali and Guinea.

On the their final leg towards Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, the Zebras are scheduled to spend ten days refining their skills in Cameroon.
